I am Learning to Discuss Characters and Settings of a Text.

I am in Sven group for reading. We have been learning about characters and settings in stories. We read a story together and talked about what the main character was like and what sorts of settings were in the story.

Book: Matthew Likes to Read.

Main Character: Matthew
Matthew likes to read. He likes to read lists and signs and directions on mushroom soup. I think that Matthew tries very hard to read. He also reads newspapers and books. We think that he would be in a high reading group because he reads really well and practices a lot. He sounds the words out. We don't think that he would be a very loud person because he is always reading. We think that he would be a very good friend because he would be able to help his friends read. Matthew can be cheeky because he tricked his mum at the supermarket!

Settings:
There are a lot of different settings in this story. One setting is at Matthew's home, he reads food packet instructions in the kitchen. He also reads newspaper in the lounge. The lounge looks like a dark and quiet place, it is a good place to read. Another setting in the book is the supermarket. There are a lot of fruits and vegetables there. There is ice cream too - Matthew told his mum that it was on the list, but it wasn't! There are lots of things to read at the supermarket, like packets, shopping lists and price signs.

My Reflection
I think that it is sometimes easy and sometimes hard to talk about a character in a story. A character is someone who is in the book. It is easier to talk about the main character in a story than the others.
I think that it is easy to talk about the setting of a story because you know where it is. It is easy because there are pictures that you can look at.
