Writing using our senses

"We talked about being at the beach. I can use my ears and eyes to help me write interesting words." said Cassidy.

"Today I used Miss Lal's laptop to play a word game. I can sound out 3 letter words by putting letters in the right order." said Cassidy.

We are learning to read o'clock time

"I can read 9 o'clock on the clock and find a matching card. Some numbers are tricky." said Cassidy. 

Art Exhibition 2017 - Winter Trees

Our artwork is inspired by the Waiting Tree in the Junior playground. We all play around this tree. This art is a combination of paint, pastel and collage.

"The best part was when I got to draw lots of little branches to make it look more real." said Cassidy

We are learning to care for our environment

This month we have been so busy cleaning up and getting our planter boxes ready. Mrs Worsfold helped us weed everything out with trowels and buckets. We then collected good soil and compost. When our box was clean, we planted strawberries, flowers and coriander. 

"It was easy to get the new soil and put it in the planter box." said Cassidy. 

We are learning to read groupings with 5

"It was a little bit tricky because I forgot which way number 5 goes. Then I remembered." said Cassidy. 

We are learning to read for meaning by looking at word endings

When I read for meaning, I look for word endings like -ed, -ing and -s to help me read.
I read it out loud correctly.

We are learning to sequence our ideas

In class, we were talking about our morning and afternoon routines at home. I wrote a story about what I do in my day, from when I wake up to when I go to sleep in the night.

"I know that number 17 comes before 18. 19 is after." said Cassidy.

We are learning to know the difference between a letter, a word and a sentence

I am in the Matai reading group.
"I know a sentence starts with a big capital letter. I can point to it" said Cassidy.

We are learning how to read back our writing

After writing time, we sit in a sharing circle. Here I am sharing my story with Shiloh and Hongli. 

"My story is My mum baked a cake and it was yummy. I can point to the words as I read my writing." said Cassidy.

We are learning to describe what a celebration is

We had a school party to celebrate Elm Park School's 50th Birthday!  

Students, teachers and families met in the Auditorium and the teachers played games like musical chairs. Then we came back into our classrooms to have activities and play games.

Here I am decorating biscuits in Room 6 with Mrs Tetupu. We used icing and lollies to create different shapes and patterns.

We got to wear our crowns we made with Miss Lal! It was so much fun playing games and winning prizes.

We are learning to make the first sound in new words

"I can find the new letters and try to say them by getting my mouth ready" said Cassidy.
